New Years Organic Food Gift Basket Ideas

Nothing screams guilt like a New Year's resolution, does it? We all look back at the excesses of the past year and wonder how we survived it, determined to do better this year. The problem with that is that most set goals impossible to realize, then suffer depression because they're unable to pull it off. Losing weight is the number one item on everyone's New Year's resolution list, so we all search for the method that will work for us. Some go to extremes in diets and workouts, which will work for a short time. Others go slowly and surely which will net them long lasting results. New Year's gift baskets can help.

One of the most frightening things about diets is they're tasteless. We sneak a piece of fried chicken from the colonel because we can't bear a piece of chicken breast with no gravy, bread crumb coating, no taste. Guilt trip number one. Fish and fowl are recommended on diets because they're protein filled but it's how we cook it that makes it a diet. But it doesn't have to be like that. Into that gift basket can go bottles and packages of herbs and spices, organic and healthy, full of taste and punch. If you like spicy, tuck some chili powder and ground red peppers into the basket and cook your chicken southwestern style. If you bake your fish coated in ginger and allspice, you'll have an entree free of guilt and packed with sweet flavor.

Guilt trip number two is fresh fruits and vegetables. When people hear those words they think celery and carrots. So they sneak broccoli in cheese sauce and corn in butter sauce and convince themselves they're being healthy. Raw foods are not processed to death and pack the original vitamins and minerals the body needs to be healthy. There are so many vegetables out there that can be cut julienne style and dipped in peanut butter, if you're a dipper, or sprinkled with black pepper for a good sinus clearing or dipped in organic tomato sauce. Gift baskets can include all the little touches we like to think we're cheating with but which are actually better for us. Organic salsa, peanut butter, fat free ranch and honey mustard can all be tucked into a gift basket around the sliced or julienne cut organically grown squashes, eggplant, bell peppers and cherry tomatoes.

Snacks slow down a dieter, too. We reach for whole grain crackers, thinking ourselves virtuous, and then spoil the effect by covering them with fatty cheeses, cream cheese, and other spreads. Dieters also reach for chewy snacks made of oats but are also stuffed with chocolate chips. Not bad, but they're processed and preserved, which is no good to a dieter or anyone who wants to be healthy. Reach for oats, by all means, but make yourself some granola homemade and stuff it with nuts, dried fruits and honey for your New Year's gift basket. No need for guilt this year.
