Housewarming Gift Basket Ideas
Housewarming gift baskets are an opportunity to create a one of a
kind gift that is filled with the items that your friends or
relatives will need in their new home, the ingredients for a meal,
or other special gifts. Think about your friends or relatives, and
their interests, as well as things that they may need in their new
home. Here are some ideas:
For The First Time Home Owner or Renter:
The first time that someone lives alone, he or she is bound to need many
essential items, both in the kitchen and outside of it. Start with a container
for your gift basket that can be used by the recipient, such as a colander or
laundry basket. Then fill it with some of the following:
- Reusable plastic storage containers for leftover food
- Organic whole wheat pasta
- Dye free laundry detergent
- Bottle opener (Look for one that will open both wine bottles and beer
bottles)
- Bottle of wine
- Ice cube trays (look for silicone trays in fun colors and shapes!)
- Potholders
- Dish Towels
- Box of nails
- Box of picture hangers
- Screwdriver Set
- Hammer
For The Gourmet Cook:
Give gourmet cooks a housewarming gift basket filled with foods that they
will enjoy nibbling on as they unpack, and ingredients and tools that they will
enjoy using once they have finished moving in. A colander, mixing, bowl, or
event a large stock pot, is a great basket for your gifts. Fill it with some of
the following:
- Bottle of wine
- Bottle opener (Look for a high tech one that ensures a perfect opening
every time!)
- Organic pancake mix and pure maple syrup (Perfect for that first lazy
Sunday!)
- Silicone potholders
- Organic tomato sauce and organic pasta (An easy to make meal after a
long day of unpacking)
- Olive oil misting bottle (Purchase two for a cook who may use olive oil
as well as another oil regularly)
- Crackers
- Decorative wine bottle stoppers (Look for wine bottle stoppers with the
family initial for a personalized touch)
- Dried fruit (Exotic fruit mixes are always appreciated, as are old
favorites like dried cranberries and apricots)
- Decorative salt and pepper shakers
For The Gardener:
An enthusiastic gardener may be more excited about his or her new garden than
the house that it came with! Share your friend or relative's excitement by
giving them a housewarming gift basket filled with gardening items. Start with a
five gallon bucket or large watering can and fill it with some of the gardening
gifts below:
- Packets of seeds (Know that your friend loves cantaloupe? Be sure to add
a packet of that melon's seeds!)
- Foam knee boards
- Small garden spade
- Book on flowers that flourish in the area
- Tomato plant (This is a seasonal gift. If you are giving your
housewarming gift basket off season, consider a small flower or herb in a
decorative pot)
