Popular Organic Cheese Gift Basket Ideas

Assemble a cheese gift basket for a personalized and healthy gift. With hundreds of cheeses to choose from, originating from countries around the world, there are endless combinations to incorporate. The key to assembling cheese gift baskets is to add a variety of cheeses with different textures and levels of firmness. There are three main types of cheeses to include.

Hard and Medium Cheeses

Include at least one hard and medium cheese in cheese gift baskets.

  • Choose a Cheddar cheese, a firm cheese that is available in a range of flavors. Choose a medium-bodied cheddar and a sharp cheddar. Include a smoked cheddar or a cheddar infused with jalapenos.
  • Pick a semi-firm cheese, cheeses which have a lower moisture content and often have a crumbly texture. Asiago, Gruyer, Swiss and Gouda are all well-known semi-firm cheeses.
  • Include a blue cheese or a Roquefort cheese. These cheeses usually have a firmness level of medium to hard. They have a pungent smell and taste as well as a crumbly texture. They are distinct from other cheeses because of the veins of blue mold running through the surface as the result of an injection of Penicillium cultures.
  • Tuck a log of goat’s milk cheese into cheese gift baskets to add a cheese that is lower in fat. Goat’s milk cheese has a tart taste and is widely used in salads and spread on crackers.

Soft Cheeses

Add at least one soft cheese.

  • Include Brie cheese, a cheese that has a delicate taste. This cheese is eaten spread on crackers or bread. Since many Brie cheeses are high in fat and calories, for a healthy alternative, add a light Brie, a reduced-fat Brie or an organic Brie, free of chemicals and growth hormones.
  • Add a Camembert cheese, a cheese that looks similar to Brie, distinctive due to its thick, white rind and creamy center. Camembert cheese, which originates from Camembert, France, differs from Brie in its aging process and its rind size. This makes it lower in fat than Brie and a healthier soft cheese option for any basket.
Accompaniments

Add foods to complement the cheeses you’ve selected. Cheeses are best eaten on crackers or bread and their flavor intensifies when eaten with condiments and beverages that complement them.

  • Add at least one box of crackers to eat the soft cheeses on.
  • Add mustards that complement the cheeses selected.
  • Add dark, organic chocolates which are high in antioxidants and low in sugar.
  • Add a selection of fruit if the basket will be given to the recipient before the fruit spoils. Fruits that accompany cheeses well include apples, grapes and pears.
  • Add honey to drizzle on soft cheeses and blue or Roquefort cheeses.
  • Include a bottle of organic wine which will bring out the soft, earthy tones of the cheese. Try to choose a bottle of wine from the region the cheese is from to intensify the flavor.
