Baby Gift Basket Ideas

Creating a baby gift basket is fun because of the wide variety of items to include. Let your imagination be your guide from accessories to toys and clothes. Little outfits are fun to pick out for a new baby, especially if you know if it is going to be a little boy or a little girl.

When designing the baby gift basket, remember that the “basket” or container that you use as the base of your design does not necessarily have to be a wicker basket at all.

For a little boy, use a small wagon as the base of your gift. Fill it with clothing items along with a couple of toys, like shovels and buckets to use outside for digging in the dirt when he is older.

For a little girl, you could use a little doll crib or a baby carriage and then add a baby doll to play with when she is a little older. Fill the crib or carriage with a variety of items.

If you do not know if the baby will be a boy or a girl, you could use a baby bathtub, a small toy box, even a diaper bag, or a “Moses basket” as the container for your items.

Take a nice diaper bag, inside put diapers and wipes, a changing pad, diaper rash ointment, a bib, a change of clothing, and a receiving blanket.

Do not forget to put in a bag to hold soiled diapers and clothes.

Many gifts will be given that a baby can wear immediately which is great but then a month from now the baby has nothing to wear because they have grown so quickly. Make your gift unique by thinking ahead for the future needs of the baby. If you know the sex of the baby, you can go with gender specific themes, otherwise try to go generic in both themes and colors.

Instead of choosing newborn sizes, consider the following:

  • 3-6 month size T-shirts or “onesies”
  • 3-6 month old sleeper bag
  • Pre-folded cloth diapers
  • diaper pins
  • Wipes
  • Sweater
  • Hats
  • Booties

Add things to the baby gift basket that most people will not get such as a little flashlight that is used to check on baby in the middle of the night without turning on an overhead light. Small spoons with the heat sensor tips for serving up baby foods or little containers for carrying snacks in a diaper bag are a nice gift.

Depending on your budget, a gift certificate for pictures by a photographer at a local photo shop, a lullaby music CD, blanket clips to keep baby from being tangled up in their blanket are nice additions. Also, consider childproofing the house, essentials such as plastic lock covers for doors and cabinets, and plug covers for electric outlets.

With a baby gift basket, you can enclose the item in cellophane and tie with a big colorful bow and it is ready for delivery.
