Military Care Package Ideas

Soldiers live a long way from home and have a very dangerous, stressful occupation. They often miss their families and loved ones; they even miss their home in general, the country that they came from that can feel so far away. Military care packages are a good way to help the soldiers connect with their homes and the people that they love, and these packages can be very helpful both in terms of what they provide and the emotional support that they give.

Things To Eat

Include things to eat in the care package, things that you know the soldier will enjoy. The food that they get in the field is often very good in terms of nutrition but not very good as far as taste is concerned. Soldiers love to get food from home that they can eat and relish, rather than always having to eat things solely to sustain themselves.

One good idea is to include snacks, which are something that the military does not provide. Send potato chips, cookies, or candy bars. The soldiers will enjoy these and also be reminded that they will return to a more familiar life when they come back home.

Things From Home

Include things that the soldiers will recognize from home. They will often feel lonely and disconnected since they are so far away and surrounded by people and places that they do not know. The following items can be sent to remind them of their family and the people back home who love them and are anxiously awaiting their return.

Books

Send novels, history books, or any other types of books that you know the soldier will like. There can be down time in which the soldier will have nothing to do. Having a book from home will both give them a source of entertainment and provide them with something that they recognize.

Photographs

Put pictures of the family in military care packages. Soldiers sit and look at these pictures when they feel like they are so far from their family and friends, and these pictures can be a source of emotional strength. Soldiers may not want to dwell on the fact that they are so far from these people, but they will be happy to see the faces of those that they love.

Music

Give the soldier music that they like from their home country. Music is a large trigger for memories. This will help the soldier to think about home and stay connected.

Personal Items

Add personal items such as letters to the military care packages. A letter from home can mean the world to a soldier in a foreign country. It will help them stay caught up with the current events back home, but it will also do much more than that. It will give them a line of communication with people that they long to see. Even if they have never written letters in the past, the soldier will be happy to get one in the field.
